Data and Evaluation

The Data and Evaluation Office performs and coordinates data analysis on families and children in DCYF care to guide program development, evaluate programs and inform policies. The office supports DCYF programs in the evaluation of services and uses evidence-based findings for the planning and development of family-driven programs and to improve child safety, permancy and well-being outcomes. You can contact Colleen Caron by email, Colleen.Caron@dcyf.ri.gov, or telephone (528-3720), for any data and evaluation issues.

The Office also uses data to track progress on DCYF's Program Improvement Plan (PIP). The PIP is the required response to the United States Department of Health and Human Services' Administration for Children and Families (ACF) Child and Family Service Review (CFSR).

The US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has issued its final report on the RI Child and Family Service Review. Read the full report issued by HHS or the summary report prepared by RI DCYF.

Rhode Island’s Program Improvement Plan (PIP) was approved officially on August 15, 2005. It represents a strong collaborative partnership between DCYF and the Administration for Children and Families (ACF). The PIP is in two parts:

1. Narrative - overview of the work that has been done and is being planned over the next two years to improve DCYF’s performance on six national child welfare outcome measures.

2. Matrix - provides an action plan with quarterly deadlines for achieving targeted benchmarks over the next two years.

The Department will be reporting to ACF on a quarterly basis, with the first report due at the end of 2005.

You can view a CIS PowerPoint presentation on the CIS Program that was developed by the Yale Consultation Center for DCYF and the CIS providers. The slides show the demographics of the children served, types of services provided, samples of service delivery profiles over a 3-month period, and a reduction in symptoms of severe emotional disturbance at the time of discharge when compared with the symptoms of admission.
