Birthday Boys Donate to DCYF
Twin-brothers Kyle & Liam Chen arrived with their family at the Bristol DCYF office
on January 30, 2008. The Portsmouth boys celebrated their 10th birthday by inviting their friends to
donate sports balls for foster children instead of bringing birthday presents. The boys wrote to
Regional Director, Paula Fontaine, "We thought that older kids in foster care might like to get a
basketball or some other sports ball..." Their parents purchased 25 duffle bags to hold the sports
balls. Kyle & Liam's eleven year old sister, Melissa, began this family tradition 2 years ago, with a
slight twist. She had chosen to place stuffed animals in the bags. The Chen's also have a seven year
old daughter and a one year old son who will likely follow in their siblings' footsteps.
The Bristol DCYF Staff would like to thank Kyle & Liam and their family & friends for thinking of
children in foster care and for this generous & thoughtful donation.
